Epidemiology and Cancer Registries

The Epidemiology and Cancer Registry consists of the Cancer Registry of the Republic of Slovenia, the Hospital-Based Cancer Registry of the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana, the epidemiology unit, and screening units with the registries ZORA (cervical cancer screening program) and DORA (breast cancer screening program).

The epidemiology unit, together with the Cancer Registry of Slovenia and the screening registries, provides a comprehensive organization of cancer epodemiology in Slovenia. In the division, routinely gathered data are regularly processed and published in yearly reports; additionally, special studies are performed according to the requests of users, and members of the staff attend – often as invited lecturers – expert meetings at home and abroad, where they present papers. Our data are included in international databases and are often used in international studies. We also cooperate with the International Association of Cancer Registries and the European Network of Cancer Registries, and we regularly present the results of our work at the meetings of these unions. We monitor the success and efficiency of the national Cancer Control Program by in-depth analysis of the gathered data. We also carry out a number of other epidemiological studies.
