    Head of Pharmacy
Monika Sonc, MSc (Pharm.), Specialist in Clinical Pharmacy
    T: +386 1 5879 559

The Pharmacy of the Institute of Oncology supplies the hospital with medicines, particularly with anti-tumor agents, sanitary material and with its own preparations (sterile epidural and subarachnoidal solutions, prescribed to patients individually as continuous analgesic therapy).

Rationalizing the use of drugs and sanitary appliances by supplying interchangeable agents, the Pharmacy of the Institute of Oncology has achieved economically favorable results that are not unethical to medical practices considering that the patients still have access to high-quality and safe drugs.

The pharmacists of the Institutre of Oncology participate in clinical trials, and are members of medical committees as well as of Slovenian and international pharmacist associations (SFD, LZS, EJHP, ESCP, ISOPP and ESOPP – the head of the Pharmacy hold the position of Vice-Chairman of ESOPP).

    The pharmacy is aiming to:

    • organize a centralized cytotoxic drug preparation – preparation of cytotoxic solutions for each individual patient in special pharmacy unit, ensuring safe and economical procedures in compliance with EU and WHO regulations,
    • make the profile of clinical pharmacist accredited in order to make him able participate actively in the selection of treatment options, rather than to be only informed of them. Their aim is to include the clinical pharmacist into the individual dosing system, thereby reducing eventual errata and improving the quality of patients’ lives. The clinical pharmacist has control supervises the therapy of a patient after his or her discharge from the hospital.
