International cooperation

The Institute of Oncology Ljubljana is a member of two international associations that are concerned with joining together those involved in the prevention and treatment of cancer. The Institute is thus accomplishing its mission in terms of being actively involved in global cancer control.

The Union for International Cancer Control is the only international non-governmental organization dealing with global cancer control. The Union pursues its vision of a world in which cancer will no longer be a threat for future generations. The Union’s mission is to upgrade and maintain global control over cancer.

Organisation of European Cancer Institutes is an organization joining together the European cancer institutes with the aim of encouraging their cooperation and strengthening the role of comprehensive cancer centers in Europe. The main purpose of the Organization is prevention and treatment of cancer as well as offering support and help to cancer patients.

High-level research, development and initiation of new treatment methods can be pursued only through cooperation with internationally recognized cancer centers abroad. Such cooperation has been usually based on partnership or on cooperation only in specific areas.

Over many active years in research, the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana established cooperation with the following foreign institutions:

and research groups:

  • EORTC Breast Cancer Group
  • EORTC Gynecological Cancer Group
  • EORTC Lung Cancer Group
  • EORTC Lymphoma Group
  • EORTC Melanoma Group
  • EORTC NOCI
  • EORTC Radiotherapy Group
