The principal task of the Department of Gynecological Oncology is surgical treatment of patients with gynecological cancer.

The gynecologists are keeping pace with new advances by introducing new trends into the every day clinical practice at the Department of Gynecological Oncology. The major principles that are observed in the treatment approach are conservative and organ sparing surgery and the least mutilating surgical intervention. This may only be achieved by respecting the multidisciplinary concept of the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana. Slovenian patients with gynecological cancers undergo treatment at the same quality level as the patients in the developed world.

The achievements of the gynecologists of the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana are regularly published in FIGO Annual Report on the Results of Treatment in Gynecological Cancer. They are also engaged as mentors to undergraduate and postgraduates, and as teaching assistants to interns and residents, and participate in research projects, financially supported by the Ministry of Higher Education Science and Technology of Slovenia, and in international multicentric studies.
