Division of Epidemiology and Cancer Registry

Cancer Epidemiology Unit

The Cancer Epidemiology Unit is a professional, research and educational service where we process data which is routinely collected in registries, as well as conduct other descriptive and analytical epidemiological studies. By collaborating with national and international research groups working in the field of cancer epidemiology, we ensure the transfer of knowledge from the broad fields of cancer prevention and the methodology of analytical epidemiological research to the Slovenian area.

We are a teaching base in cancer epidemiology for under- and post-graduate students of medicine and other health schools, for medical residents in public health and other specialities, and also for colleagues from abroad.

We work with the non-governmental sector to study risk and protective factors for cancer and to raise awareness of the disease in the lay public.

Professional Competence

As the range of knowledge required to perform our tasks to a high standard is extremely broad, the Cancer Epidemiology Unit employs experts from a variety of backgrounds: public health, epidemiology, oncology, biostatistics, medical informatics, etc. This ensures that the expertise is properly implemented and in line with the latest scientific knowledge, and that our recommendations are more effectively put into practice.
