Occasionally, however, there is a need among the professional or lay public for a more detailed understanding of the cancer burden in a smaller geographic area. Such projects require specific data processing and different research approaches. The results and interpretation of the small area geospatial analyses are provided to the client. and the final reports are also made available to the general public.
In recent years, we have conducted:
- a study on the impact of radon on the incidence of lung cancer in Slovenia commissioned by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia, Slovenian Radiation Protection Administration (2022).
- a geographical analysis of the burden of cancer in children and adolescents in Slovenia, with a risk assessment of low-frequency magnetic field sources in the vicinity of power lines and transformer substations, carried out through the Targeted Research Project V3-1718, "Health risk assessment for exposures of children to low-frequency electric and magnetic fields in Slovenia" (2020);
- the study Cancer incidence in the Dravsko Polje region (2019);
- on the initiative of the National Institute of Public Health, Regional Unit Celje, an analysis of the burden of cancer in the administrative units of Celje and Šentjur pri Celju, focusing on the potential impact of environmental pollution by heavy metals (2011);
- the study Geographical analysis of cancer incidence in Bela krajina and its surroundings with a focus on the identification of possible excess cancer incidence due to exposure to PCBs, commissioned by the National Institute of Public Health, Regional Unit Novo mesto (2011);
- a study on the burden of cancer in the municipality of Dolenjske Toplice, commissioned by the National Institute of Public Health, Regional Unit Novo mesto (2011);
- an analysis of the cancer burden in Zasavje, focusing on the impact of the largest industrial polluters, commissioned by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia and the National Institute of Public Health, Regional Unit Ljubljana (2008);
- on the initiative of the Agency for Radioactive Waste of the Republic of Slovenia, a detailed analysis of the cancer burden in the municipality of Brežice, with an emphasis on the difference in the burden before and after the operation of the Krško Nuclear Power Plant (2006).
