Prof. Janez Žgajnar, PhD is a surgeon at the Oncology Institute in Ljubljana. He has conducted most of his research work in the field of breast cancer. In addition to breast cancer, his bibliography also includes works in the area of malignant melanoma and thyroid cancer. Since 2009, he has been leading the ARIS research program "Families with increased or high risk for cancer: counseling, mutation detection and cancer prevention" P3-0352. He is a member of the international research group International Breast Cancer Study Group. In the past, he was the principal investigator in Slovenia for the notable IBCSG 023 study, as well as in the IMPACT study, which internationally investigates the characteristics and management algorithms for male carriers of BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 genes. He is the author and co-author of 75 articles in journals with an impact factor, and the author of several chapters in domestic and one foreign textbook.
