Abstract
In Slovenia, cancer is a major public health burden, as it is the leading cause of death among men and second among women. Today, more than 100,000 people with a diagnosis of cancer live in Slovenia, of which almost 12,000 have colorectal cancer. More than 13,500 Slovenians get cancer every year, of which around 1,400 suffer from colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer and the second most common cause of death from cancer.
Survival in patients with colorectal cancer has increased over the last 20 years (from 48% to 62%). Their survival and quality of life are improved with better treatment options and comprehensive rehabilitation. , we can provide patients with a better quality of life. Numerous clinical studies show that cancer treatment has many side effects. Patients' quality of life may be impaired during treatment and years later due to these side effects.
As part of the Pilot Research on Individualized Comprehensive Rehabilitation of patients with colorectal cancer 2022-2024, we plan to develop and pilot individualized comprehensive rehabilitation services for patients with colorectal cancer. The goals of the project are:
1. To identify the needs for individual sets of comprehensive rehabilitation on a representative sample of 75 colorectal cancer patients to be included in the intervention group, which will be the basis for planning resource needs for comprehensive rehabilitation of colorectal cancer patients at the national level;
2.To assess the adequacy of the proposed clinical pathway on a representative sample of colorectal cancer patients in the intervention group and prepare adjustments of professional guidelines and clinical pathways of comprehensive rehabilitation of colorectal cancer patients based on research results;
3.With the help of a control group of 75 colorectal cancer patients for whom comprehensive rehabilitation will not be available, assess whether the quality of life of patients with colorectal cancer included in the proposed integrated rehabilitation system has improved and determine how the intervention affected the duration of sick leave and disability retirement.
With the help of the control group, we will determine whether the quality of life of patients in the intervention group is better. We will also find out how the intervention affected the duration of their sick leave and disability retirement. Based on the results, we will prepare an assessment of the need for comprehensive rehabilitation, which will be the basis for resource planning, adjustment of guidelines and clinical pathway.
